HF Radio

There's something very special about talking on HF radio, station to station, independent of third party assistance or infrastructure, especially on low power and QRP. My first station was a Yaesu FT-857D with an old Barker & Williamson BWD-90 folded dipole antenna. My eyes widened the day I spoke with ZS2KD from South Africa, almost 8,900 miles away with only 100 watts. A real 'Marconi moment' for me.

Since then, my investment has grown from one radio to several, and the hobby continues to pay great dividends. From the FT-857D to a Yaesu FT-991A, and now the new model Yaesu FT-710, meeting fellow enthusiasts from around the world and learning about all-things-radio, amateur radio has brought a whole new world of interesting things to life.
